Simultaneous Effects of Aerobic Training and Berberine Chloride on Plasma Glucose, IL-6 and TNF-α in Type 1 Diabetic Male Wistar Rats

Authors

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Aerobic training and berberine chloride include antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics. In the current study, simultaneous effects of aerobic training and berberine chloride on plasma glucose, IL-6 and TNF-α were investigated in type 1 diabetic male Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 64 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into eight groups (n=8), including healthy control, diabetic control, diabetic-berberine (15 and 30 mg/kg), diabetic-training, diabetic-training-berberine (15 and 30 mg/kg) and health-trained. Diabetes was induced using a single intraperitoneal injection (IP) of streptozotocin (STZ) of 60 mg/kg body weight (BW). The training schedule included running on a treadmill for six weeks, five sessions a week and daily intakes of berberine using gavage. The IL-6 and TNF-α values were assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: Results showed that the glucose concentration in diabetic groups with aerobic training and intake of berberine simultaneously was significantly lower than that in the diabetic control group (P<0.05). Plasma IL-6 in the diabetic control group significantly increased, compared to that in the normal control group (P<0.05). In diabetic groups that received the two treatments simultaneously, IL-6 significantly increased, compared to that in the diabetic control group (P<0.05). The quantity of TNF-α in the diabetic control group was significantly higher than that in the normal control group (P<0.05). The plasma level of TNF-α significantly decreased in all treatment groups, compared to that in the diabetic control group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Combined effects of berberine chloride use and aerobic training on blood glucose, IL-6 and TNF- α are more evident than their individual effects. Furthermore, a dose of 30 mg/kg of berberine chloride included a greater effect on the highlighted blood parameters, compared to that a dose of 15 mg/kg of berberine chloride did.

Comparison of the Effect of Six Weeks of Aerobic and Resistance Training on CK, PGC-1 and TNF-α in Cardiac Tissue of Wistar Diabetic Rats

Introduction: Diabetes causes inflammation and destruction of heart cells in people. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of six weeks of aerobic and resistance training on TNF-α, PGC-1 and CK in the heart tissue of male Wistar diabetic rats. Methods: The research method was experimental and fundamental. 25 rats weighing approximately 200 to 250 grams and the average age between 10 ...

Effects of Aerobic Training on mTORC1 Gene Expression in Male Wistar Rats with Type 2 Diabetes

Objective: Although type 2 diabetes is a multifactorial illness, one of the major risk factors is the prevalence of obesity. In this context, recent genetic studies on diabetics or pre-diabetics, have shown that some of the newly-known genes make the conditions for type 2 diabetes even in the absence of obesity. One of these genes is called mTORC1, which plays an important role in the synt...

study the effects of low level laser diode on no production and healing of diabetic and cortisone acetate and normal wounded sd rats

nitric oxide (no) is a small molecule synthesized by most of mammalian cells with diverse biological activities including vasodilatation, host defense and wound healing. impaired wound healing is a common occurrence among diabetics and patients receiving glucocorticoid therapy. on the other hand the application of laser in biomedical area have been increased. thus, the current studies were desi...

COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF INTERVAL TRAINING WITH DIFFERENT DIET ON IL-6, TNF-Α AND SOME OF METABOLIC INDEXES IN OBESITY TYPE 2 DIABETIC MEN

Background: Interleukin-6(IL-6) and Tumor Necroes Factor-alpha (TNF-α) are secreted by adipose tissue and are potential regulators of low grade inflammation and metabolic disorders in Obesity Type 2 Diabetes (OT2D). hence, present study examined the effects of interval training with different diet on low grade inflammation and some of metabolic indexes in OT2D. Methods: forty-five OT2D men were ...

the effect of aerobic exercise training on serum levels of tnf-α, il - 1β, il-6 and hsp70 in rats

extra-cellular levels (serum) of heat shock protein 70 is influenced by various stressors such as exercise and it has been shown that this protein affects the proinflammatory cytokines in human and animal samples. the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of endurance training on serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines (tnf-?, il-1?, il-6 and hsp70) in trained and untrained rats. fo...
